In my new job, I am in a school that specializes in art, media, communication, and theater. Never in my life have I been around professionals who so easily understand that creativity is a necessary, non-negotiable element of living. Several of my new colleagues pursue writing, singing, theater, painting, dancing, and performance in their personal lives.
And it shows.
Those who intentionally pursue the arts in their life, those who utilize their creative drive seem to be deeper, more meaningful individuals. They understand that artists and writers are more prone to mental illness, particularly depression.
Writing takes me inward. It is a different picture. For me, it is exponentially more difficult than photography and demands different skills. Photography is a love, a peaceful addiction. Writing is who I am.
I have moved to place, a new location of this world that understands it. It's no big deal.
And I am still in shock from that acceptance.
